Crafted distillation of how to think in money terms

I’m disinclined to do the work of managing my money, but this short book puts it all in perspective. It allowed me, a reluctant money manager, to confidently and competently create a money plan and begin carrying out the actions needed to achieve my goals. Mr. Kunkler uses simple, concise explanations and outlines the compelling reasons for monitoring and directing your own money.
Most personal finance books are written by financial planners or stock brokers trying to sell you something. This book, instead, offers all kinds of life advice from someone who has thought more about money moves than anybody should (or I was ever likely to). Once he gets you thinking about “opportunity costs” or other costs that you’ve never considered, you’ll cringe at what you’ve been doing up to this point.
What I liked best, and I quote, “most people focus on increasing their salary and benefits, while financially ambitious people mainly focus on increasing their investment income and net worth.” I’ve never even thought to measure my investment income before, much less how important it is to nurture this type of income.
What I liked least was the realization of how much money and time I’ve wasted (and can’t get back). I’m happy to learn how to setup and fund all my goals, including retirement.

Simplifies Seemingly Complex Issues

This book is kind of like "Finance for Dummies", but for smart people (or people who want to be smart). It is easy to read without being condescending. There is no word padding or a bunch of filler stories. These are down to earth, sound principles that are laid out in a clear, concise, logical manner. The chapters do not necessarily need to be read in sequence. Each chapter, even though part of the overall system of thinking, is solid tool in itself. Well done, Duke Kunkler.

This should be a Christmas stocking stuffer for every high school graduate heading off into the big bad world!

My friend Duke has created a wonderful pocket sized guide to personal finance. The chart that shows expected earnings differences between college and high school only graduates is a jaw dropper. The book also does a particularly good job debunking gold. This should be a Christmas stocking stuffer for every high school graduate heading off to into the big bad world!
